AFRIKAANS PROJECT (2010)

In keeping with South Africa's multi-faceted culture and diverse languages. Margaret’s Daughter refuses to set boundaries on their musical style. Until very recently, they were known only as an English pop-rock band, but they are currently working on a contemporary Afrikaans project.

The first two songs have been released. "So hoog" has been play-listed on numerous South African radio stations, and even features on the play-list of Women of Substance Radio, an online station based in America. In fact, it's the first ever Afrikaans song to be played on this station :)

The idea is to release songs as and when they are ready. The new song for June 2010 is "Ek mis jou". Watch this space for the third installment, due in July. Upon completion of the project, a CD will be released.

 

BLACK HOLE EXPRESS (2009)

“All aboard! This is the last call for the Black Hole Express!”

Margaret’s Daughter invites you to join them on their journey through the passion, heartache and joy of being alive. You will be accompanied on this train ride by a collection of music ranging from delicate acoustic songs, through tear-jerker ballads to energetic pop-rock anthems. In addition to the music, renowned Cape Town-based French artist, Brice Reignier, has prepared a booklet with full-colour illustrations to complement your experience. Every passenger will receive a complimentary copy. Co-produced by Matthew Fink, this album has an edgier tone than their previous offerings, while staying true to the original Margaret's Daughter sound. Existing fans will not be disappointed and new fans are sure to be made.

SIMPLICITY... (2007)

Margaret’s Daughter often performs as a duo, focusing on the interaction between their two guitars and vocal harmonies. Fans saw them playing these stripped-down versions of their songs, and wanted to take some of this home with them. Margaret’s Daughter delivered with Simplicity... As the title suggests, it is a simple, acoustic album, with some percussion and violin added here and there to spice things up.

This entire album was recorded over four days at Etienne's house. Nothing fancy, the aim was to capture the simplicity of their unplugged show, without adding anything that couldn't be reproduced live. They don't do many cover versions, but their version of Heather Nova's "Like Lovers Do" has always been an audience favourite, so it's included here.

 

MARGARET'S DAUGHTER (THE EARLY DAYS) (2006)

With a little bit of knowledge and a lot of passion this album was recorded in drips and drabs over a period of two years in Etienne’s "home studio" (read: spare bedroom connected to his PC). Between the two of them, they wrote and produced all the songs and even played all the instruments.

These "professional demo recordings" became the basis of the Margaret's Daughter sound and some songs were later re-recorded in a "proper studio" with additional session musicians and a co-producer. These new versions can be found on Black Hole Express.

Fans are still very fond of these early recordings, and some songs have even been play-listed on South African national radio stations. Therefore, they decided to keep this CD available for digital download, so new fans can discover where their journey started.
